Incorporating designing and studying. A Study Journal.

Since midterms are coming up, I wanted to do something that incorporates designing and my study notes. I have decided to design a study journal this week for the sake of time and my brain. All are handwritten. Although I kinda wish I did it digitally cause that would have saved me a lot of time organizing. Here is the process of how I start organizing and handwriting my study journal:

  1. I started to pick out a color scheme to go with. Something that would allow me to remember too. I usually avoid writing my notes in black and use blue and red instead. Why? Because writing in blue ink and improving your memory is better than black. Also using any visible color other than black allows one to concentrate more on the word whenever one looks back at the note. For these notes, I decided to go with a blue and pink theme.

  2. I make sure that my notes are section off and summarize down if it's too long. I would rephrase my notes. Also, I make sure that it is also detailed enough to help me understand the terms. I don’t want to rephrase to the point that I’m missing an important part of the study guide.

  3. I coordinate a color to each section. For example, I make chapter 6 and 8 blue and chapter 7 and 9 pink.

  4. Then I decided if I should do bullet points or do something different. I thought that bullet points are too basic so I went with arrows and squares.

  5. Next, I usually write my notes and create a layout design as I go. If I find an important word I would highlight or bold the word.

  6. I go back and highlight the header so that way it looks like it is more organized than before and I make sure that the sections are jumbled up with each other. Although, I made a mistake using yellow instead of pastel blue. The yellow looks a bit off and it doesn't match well with my study theme.

  7. Instead of drawing, I decided to use stickers to add graphics to my layout. Since my color scheme is already pink and blue and I use a galaxy sticker that matches the colors. I place the stickers where there are empty spaces and outline it black to give it a 3D touch.

  8. Then I went back and fixed anything that was off. Again, these are my study notes, but I wanted to make it look good too. I make sure that I have all the important terms and definitions that I need to study and make sure that my mind is relaxed by designing.

Overall, studying bullet journals is a great way to incorporate my hobby with my studies. It gives me a chance to organize my thoughts into sections and helps me to study. Also, it gives me a chance to create and experience different layouts so I can find my style. My current style is pretty basic so far.
